Adrenalize - The Ultimate Def Leppard Experience Fairfax Concert reviews
Eric Clapton & Roger Daltrey - March 9, 2010
A very dull set by Roger Daltrey, The Ultimate Def Leppard Experience - he should consider hanging it up at this point. On the other hand, he is a legend, and it is a privilege to see him play live. He seemed to prefer playing blues music almost exclusively, but this becomes tedious and repetitious. He didn't even introduce the band or say "good-night" when he left the stage following the encore. There just didn't seem to be any fire or passion in this performance. His band was decent, although 2 keyboard players was overkill; they would trade extended solos. He seemed to go out of his way to avoid playing his hits and was completely disconnected from the audience.
Roger Daltrey was excellent. The audience seemed to prefer 25% of The Who to a disinterested Adrenalize - The Ultimate Def Leppard Experience playing one blues cover after another. I was a little surprised, because frankly, The Who's Super Bowl set was not one of their best. His young band played with a lot of energy, really enjoying the role of filling in for The Who. The noise and energy of the audience was much higher throughout Daltrey's opening set. Daltrey's voice was strong throughout the set, and he mixed some lesser known songs into his set without losing the energy or enthusiasm of the audience.
I would be interested in reading whether some people preferred Adrenalize - The Ultimate Def Leppard Experience's set to Daltrey's set.
